How to Choose University Career
10 things that I have learned as a university student and as a mother:
2/10 – Try a Foreign University
5/10 – What if I have no idea about what to do?
6/10 – What I want and I like or what I reason I have better job opportunities?
8/10 – What if I “make a mistake”? Descartes or Hume…
9/10 – Take a sabbatical year and travel around the World
5 / 10- What if I have no idea about what to do?
If you have no idea what you want to do there are several options:
A. Make a “brainstorming”:
This tool is useful to see what creative ideas arise from you and your colleagues, you may be surprised.
Remember that to perform this exercise you must think freely by suspending the judgment and criticism about what comes to mind.
Any idea, however crazy, it is valid or acceptable. It must be fun.
The more ideas you generate the better, quantity over quality, without filter, the more original will be the better ones.
Once compiled you can try to improve them by grouping them, relating them, counterposing them … surely from this exercise you get some useful or unexpected idea that will allow you to continue advancing in this investigation.
You will find its usefulness afterwards, what is sure is that you will laugh for a while and this, to de-stress and take the subject with greater tranquility and perspective goes very well.
B. Ask for advice:
Asking for advice is a good idea as long as the person you ask for advice meets these two conditions:
Choose your interlocutor well because if you are going to ask for advice from an inadequate person, then it is better not to ask for it. Who does not know someone who ended up doing a university degree because this person asked his/her best friend which one to choose? …
C. Learn to discern:
If you think about it, you can not choose the two most important decisions that determine your life:
but you can, and should, make the 5 choices that are in your hand and that more will determine your future:
Making good decisions is fundamental, and, it is in your handto learn which parameters are important for you to make them well, here are some:
D. And finally:
I am going to tell you something very important and that maybe it will seem like an unnecessary truism:
The final decision is yours!
You are the last responsible person of what university career you choose, so do not let your parents the responsibility to decide for you because you do not know what to choose, and do not even think about blaming them later because you studied something that you really did not like.
There is an age in which to blame your parents for everything that has happened to you and is happening now in your life is no longer valid and is not longer an excuse, that age is called “maturity” and in my opinion that maturity starts taking responsibility for these 5 personal choices that will determine your future, the first one: to choose a University career.
The clock runs, your childhood time in which your parents made the decisions for you comes to the end, you enter the youth, at 18 you are of legal age and that means you have to start taking the reins of your life, your first decision is arriving … open the door!
