How to Choose University Career
10 things that I have learned as a university student and as a mother:
2/10 – Try a Foreign University
4/10 – Sciences or Humanities?
5/10 – What if I have no idea about what to do?
6/10 – What I want and I like or what I reason I have better job opportunities?
8/10 – What if I “make a mistake”? Descartes or Hume…
9/10 – Take a sabbatical year and travel around the World
4/10 – Sciences or Humanities?
Hybrid! of Sciences and Humanities
Be a humanist scientist or a scientific humanist
One of the things I like the most about foreign universities inspired by Anglo-Saxon philosophy is that science careers are combined with those of humanities, so, for example, even studying mathematics you have the possibility to choose between 10 different types of degrees, such as:
In Spain, even before the University, our educational system forces us to choose between Sciences or Humanities at an age when the students are not yet ready to know what they want to do and once the choice is made, it is difficult to go beyond group to another if you change your mind, especially letters to science because of the rigidity of the system.
This distinction is somewhat more blurred in health careers such as medicine, but in the more technical careers this mandatory choice makes Spanish graduates very good and are very well considered professionally abroad because they are very specialized but, it has as a counterpart , that their students have not had the time or training necessary to develop critical, social, historical and philosophical thinking so essential to understand and manage well in other fields of life besides the professional.
Not only does it happen that in our universities you do not play sports, but you do not consider the student as a whole as an individual who, in addition to teaching a profession, is also educated to live and be.
A holistic formation of the person: intellectual, physical and transcendental does not occur in our universities, rather the student is prepared to find work to form as a person. In the contrasts there is passion and, in the vision of the whole, the wealth.
I encourage you that if you do not know very well what to study or, if you like both Sciences and Humanities, try:
This interdisciplinary training will result in an increase in your chances of finding work because labor markets are beginning to look for professionals with multidisciplinary skills.
Are the smart ones of Sciences? maybe, but the wisest are from Humanities.
Bring out the best of each house!
